Elevate Your Experience

Authentic Local Experience

We always recommend that you get away from the tourist spots and see the local culture.

One of the best ways to experience a culture is through food. Immerse your self in the local culture and take some home with you by learning how to cook traditional dishes from a local in their home. Then sit and eat it with them.

Game-viewing in Hwange, Zimbabwe’s traditional big game park, is  exceptionally good, offering much more than just the “big 5”. The park  is particularly famous for its large herds of elephant and buffalo, but cheetah, leopard, giraffe, wildebeest, eland,  bat-eared fox, roan, sable antelope, and zebra are all regularly  sighted.

This all-day tour introduces travelers to one of Costa Rica’s most incredible sights – the enchanting, blue-hued Río Celeste. The  river’s color is the result of the chemical mixture of sulfur and  carbonate, which originate in the nearby Tenorio Volcano. Seeing this  sky-blue river flow through a dense rainforest is an undeniably amazing  experience.

We recommend excursions through Project Expedition

Best Travel Agency - logo for international tour supplier

Who is Project Expedition

This is our most trusted supplier of tours around the world. We have built a strong partnership over the years, which you will see signs of if you use any of the links I provide you. Those links will take you to their website where they have replaced their logo for ours and the contact information is for Lux Inclusive Travel rather than Project Expedition.

They don't  mark up the prices higher than the local operators price, they know each local tour operator they offer, and  they stand behind every tour on their site. This means the selection isn't as wide as a supplier who will sell ANY tour, such as Viator, but having criteria matters for your experience. I  recommend starting with Project Expedition and if you don't see  something you like, then try Viator who I will say a few words about after Project Expedition.

Why them and not the cruise line or the local operator?

There are three big reasons you would want to book with Project Expedition instead of the cruise line:

  1. You will pay a lot less than booking through the cruise line
  2. You will have a lot more options and flexibility
  3. You have options for smaller groups and even private excursions. When you have more than two cruisers, you should always compare the overall cost of private vs. the combined per person costs of shared tours. If you don't see a private tour through Project Expedition, call us! We work with private tour guides all over the world who we can set you up with.

There are three big reason you would want to book with Project Expedition instead of the small, local tour operator:

  1. There is usually a better cancellation policy through Project Expedition than the tour operator offers.
  2. You have more security and protection. If something were to go wrong, or the tour operator didn't provide what was promised, it is often very difficult working with a local tour operator and they will never see you again, so upsetting you may not be a concern. This is especially true for international destinations where they know you won't come back to sue them.
  3. Most tours that are labeled as shore excursions with Project Expedition have added protections for cruisers such as a cruise friendly refund policy and a back to ship guarantee. See below for more detail on those benefits and how to tell if a tour has one or both of the cruise benefits. These are benefits you get through the cruise line as well.

Aren't I being a better traveler if I support local businesses?

No matter how you book your excursion, it is the local tour operator who is getting paid for the tour. All suppliers are going to take a small commission for making the sale, but the tour operator gets a steady stream of business without paying advertising. As a business owner, I can tell you that paying a commission for actual business is far less expensive that paying for advertising that may not yield business. So you are still supporting the local business. In the case of the cruise line, they take a commission from the sale and also mark the price up. Sometimes double it. The local tour operator does not get any of that extra money.

Are you getting paid to say this crap?

No. Project Expedition did not ask us to say any of this and did not compensate us for recommending them or creating this page that primarily focuses on them. It would be my guess that they have no idea this page exists. We recommend them because we trust them the most, they stand behind every tour they sell, and we have had a tremendous amount of experience doing business with them without upset clients. Lux Inclusive Travel and its agents can't afford to make bad recommendations, so we don't take the job lightly. Great recommendations is one of the primary ingredients required for us to stay in business.

For our existing clients

Remember, using our links allows us to be your dedicated travel partner, providing expert advice and assistance every step of the way. We always prefer to talk with you about the excursions you're interested to make certain you know what to expect and are selecting the best option for that kind of tour, instead of booking online. You know we're always happy to help, but sometimes it might seem simpler to book online when you're already on the tour page, but if you book something that isn't quite what you thought it would be, you will wish you took a couple minutes to run it by your Travel Advisor. If you have already discussed it and know what exactly what you are booking and what to expect, we fully support you booking through one of our links.

Full Policies For Shore Excursion Benefits

Back to Ship Guarantee

Project Expedition guarantees that  you will get back to your ship on time, provided that all of the  following requirements apply:

  • The Shore Excursion you booked offers the Back to Ship Guarantee.
  • Your Shore Excursion is scheduled to end no less than 2 hours prior to  the scheduled departure time of your cruise ship. It is your  responsibility to confirm your ship’s departure time prior to booking,  in addition to re-confirming the ship’s itinerary on the day of the  Shore Excursion.
  • You have not changed or deviated from the original itinerary of the Shore Excursion that you booked on Project Expedition.
  • The delay in returning to the ship was due to no fault or action of your own.

In the event that you are not  returned back to your cruise ship before it departs, Project Expedition will cover up to USD $500 per person towards transportation and/or  accommodation necessary to travel to the next port of call. Receipts are  required for reimbursement.

Cruise Friendly Refund Policy

Shore Excursions with this benefit will offer a full refund if any of the following occur:

  • Your cruise ship arrives late, and you miss your Shore Excursion as a result.
  • Your cruise ship changes its date of arrival and it is not possible to reschedule.
  • Your cruise ship skips port.
  • Your cruise is canceled by the cruise line.
  • You cancel prior to the Cancellation Deadline on your confirmation voucher.

In the event of a refund claim for one of these reasons, Project Expedition will verify the cruise ship’s actual itinerary before processing a refund. To be eligible for a refund, you must submit your claim in writing no later than 14 days after the scheduled date of the Shore Excursion.
